Kitchen
"Kitchen composes two tales about mothers, transsexuality, bereavement, kitchens, love and tragedy in contemporary Japan."
So, a couple of days ago I finished reading Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto. This book is very short, in a pocket version that I own it's only 105 pages, and after that comes another story called Moonlight Shadow, which ends at page 150. As you can see, it takes no time to read it. Even though it may be a bit short, it's absolutely outstanding. There wasn't a moment where I didn't like the book or felt bored.
It's hard to put my finger on it, but there's something that makes me very emotionally attached to this book. Both the first & second story. I think it's because both stories involve death in some way, and for someone who has had experience with it, I can really relate to these characters.
The first story, Kitchen, ended in a perfect way aswell. It left it open, for you to decide what happens next. I love stories like that when it's done right. It's such an amazing book overall. It goes up to my top 3 of all time, no doubt.
